SPANISH ARCHER was given a lovely ride by Daniel Muscutt to win the ten furlong Smarkets Novice Stakes at Nottingham last night. They sat second just behind Side Effect who made the running until about two out. He recieved a nasty bump from the leader when he went to pass him which could have un-nerved him or un-balanced him but SPANISH ARCHER just got on with the job of winning and won by four and a half lengths and another seven and a half lengths back to the third. He had run very well here in his first race in May when finishing fourth. He is by Lope de Vega and apparently they can be quite highly strung which at times he has been. Yesterday he behaved impeccably and walked round the paddock like an old lamb.
He is owned by the Fred Archer Racing – Iroquois Partners of which many of them were there to see their horse win. He will probably go for another Novice Race and have to carry a penalty before he goes on to do anything else.
SPANISH ARCHER was bought from the October Sales at Arqana. He was led out of the sales ring unsold but we were able to buy privately afterwards. He has not always been easy and at times quite a handful but he is growing up all the time now and turning into a lovely horse with a an excellent temperament.

Tomorrow we have MAGICAL DREAMER running up at Haydock with George Wood Riding. We ran her last time in a Group Three at York and she got a bit keen but she is back in handicap company again tomorrow and I think Haydock will suit her better. Everything is a bit closer than York where the lead up across the Knavesmire is very open. She has been a lovely horse for The Ladylove Partners and won four times and been second five times. She looks fantastic at the moment and in good form.

LORD GEORGE will be decalred tomorrow for the two mile race at The Shergar Cup Meeting at Ascot on Saturday and then we will just have to wait to see what jockey we get allocated. He is also in excellent form. I think we should disregard his last race in The Northumberland Plate as he had a fairly easy time since he just got beaten in The Marathon at All Weather Finals at the end of March but he seems in cracking form now. He has always looked as if the all weather suits him better but we think if the ground is good to firm he will be fine. MASTER ARCHER is also due to run on Saturday in a two mile race at Newmarket. This will be his seventh race of the year but he seems to bounce back after each run.
