Brave PTARMIGAN RIDGE Gets Caught On The Line Again!

One of the kindest and bravest horses you will find PTARMIGAN RIDGE just got caught on the line in Byrne Group Handicap(Class 4) (0-85, 3yo+) 7f Standard To Slow.  This was his third running on the trot on the Kempton All Weather and his third second having just got caught in the final strides.  It was three and a quarter lengths back to the favourite who was third.  His favoured surface is soft turf but as we have not had anything without firm in the description he has had to run on the all weather other than one race at Doncaster over 6f earlier in the season.  He has tries his hardest but a well handicapped horse has caught him each time and to make it worse he has gone up in the handicap each time.  I think we will see a better horse when he gets on some soft turf.

Possibly a mile and six furlongs proved too much for little THE PINTO KID and he got very tired.  He is not very big but has some character and he had a very good blow after this race.  I think he really enjoyed the ground but he may not be quite strong enough to get the 1m6f in it at the moment.

PTARMIGAN RIDGE has an entry on Monday but I would be surprised if James ran him again so soon, EXCELLERATION has an entry at Kempton on Wednesday. He has had a little break and has done very well for it.  Fred Archer Racing may have their first two year old runner if their filly EXCELLED runs at Yarmouth next Sunday. She is a lovely filly bought at Goffs Orby Sale and a relation of Burnt Sugar who has been doing very well this year.

Excelled

MASTER ARCHER continues to surprise us as he is thriving on his racing.  Every race he has he comes back bouncing.  This week he has been having a mini holiday and doing something different.  Kevin the Assistant Trainer at Pegasus has been using him as a hack and he has been brilliant.  I thought today (Friday 17th August) he was just beginning to look a bit fresh which was just what we wanted. He has had sixteen races since April 2017 which is probably normal for some trainers but quite rare for James.
