BETVICTOR POCKETS WELSH OPEN EXTENSION
Bookmaker BetVictor is to continue as the title sponsor of snooker’s Welsh Open after renewing its deal with tournament organisers World Snooker.
BetVictor sponsored the event for the first time in 2013 and, to coincide with the new agreement, it has also been announced that total prize money at the tournament will increase from UK£250,000 to UK£300,000, with the winner taking home UK£60,000 instead of UK£50,000.
The new deal follows World Snooker’s decision to extend the world ranking event by four days and increase the competitor field to 128 players this year.
“The Welsh Open is one of the sport’s iconic tournaments and we are delighted to again lend our name and support to an event that has been extended in 2014 to give snooker fans the opportunity to see legends of the sport rub shoulders with some of the new kids on the block in a brand new format,” said Magnus Grinneback, the managing director of BetVictor Asia.
The 2014 BetVictor Welsh Open runs from 19th February to 2nd March at the Newport Centre in South Wales. The defending champion is Stephen Maguire (pictured).
