Formal town garden

Design by Johnny Winter

JWL started work in November, completing the project two months later in January. Work ran concurrently with the renovation of the property.

The garden was relatively small yet had a beautiful outlook on neighbouring paddocks. Cambridge-based designer Spike Jackson designed the project and his careful attention to detail within the garden helped hugely when implementing the design.

The main challenges encountered during the build were poor access along a narrow pathway and extreme winter temperatures, which made for tricky conditions when cladding the walls with slate.

The materials used within this scheme were flame-textured lime stone paving, slate cladding and powder-coated steel for the water feature and wall ends. The south facing garden was a complete sun-trap which meant the designer used a high percentage of drought tolerant plants throughout the scheme.

Despite its landscaping challenges, the design, build and level of finish resulted in exactly what the client desired and made for a rewarding project for the team.
