Home | News | Toronado’s first Australian weanlings

Toronado had a hugely successful sales season with his first northern hemisphere foals in 2016.  He closed the British and Irish foal sales season with the average price tag for his foals at over 34,000gns.  The top price paid was for Lot 655 at Tattersalls December Foal Sale, where MC Bloodstock paid 190,000gns for a beautiful half-brother to Agent Murphy, bred by Wellsummers Stud.

We have been eagerly awaiting his first crop of Australian foals selling, and at the Inglis Select Weanling Sale on the 10th of April Toronado was represented by 3 of his progeny.  All 3 were consigned by Swettenham Stud, and Toronado finished the sale as the leading sire by average (with 3 or more sold) with his 3 weanlings averaging over $71,000.

Swettenham Stud Principal Adam Sangster – “We showcased three lovely Tornado weanlings to show off the quality that this first season sire is producing, not only in the northern hemisphere but in the southern hemisphere,” Sangster said. “That was reflected in the 174 mares (he covered) in his first season and 142 in his second season.  The foals are throwing very much to himself and Toronado was a speedy son of High Chaparral and he performed in Europe’s Group One stallion-making mile races,” he said.

With such great looking stock on both sides of the world the future is looking very bright for Toronado.
