The Newmarket Festival have announced an amended date for the Newmarket Hilly Cycle Sportive in its programme of events for 2017. The ‘Hilly’ will now take place on Sunday 25th June 2017, starting at the Rowley Mile Racecourse with monies raised going to help support local Newmarket causes.
Booking for this year’s event is now open online at www.newmarkethilly100.org.uk, with an early bird offer of only £25 available until April 9th. Now in its 4th year, this annual event has proved increasingly popular, drawing participants from far and wide. Riders will have the choice of three fully marshalled courses over 25, 50 and 100 miles as well as there being a course available for children within the safe confines of the racecourse grounds.
Following a Dragon’s Den initiative held earlier in the year at Newmarket Academy, a handful of students aiming to join an expedition to India in 2018 have been offered free entry by the Festival committee in return for their help in setting up the event. They can then use the ‘Hilly’ as a platform for their individual fund raising efforts. Alex Baldock, the student who successfully made the pitch to the dragons, will be fund matched up to £500.
Newmarket Hilly Cycle Sportive is the brain child of Noel Byrne, CEO of The Bedford Lodge Hotel. Noel Byrne commented,
‘I am delighted that we are able to once again put on this superb event and in doing so raise vital funds for our community. We are so grateful to all the businesses and individuals that are sponsoring and cycling on the day, helping us to help young people in our community.’
