This year Ballylinch welcomes the brilliant Prix de l’Arc winner WALDGEIST to our stallion roster. Bred and raced in partnership by two of Europe’s preeminent stud farms, Gestüt Ammerland and Newsells Park Stud, and trained by Andre Fabre, Waldgeist won one of the best editions of the Prix de l’Arc in decades. The backing of his owner breeders and the support he will receive at Ballylinch will give this great racehorse with an exceptional pedigree, every chance to achieve his destiny at stud.
At Ballylinch, Waldgeist will join another Champion who raced in the Ammerland colours, Lope de Vega. Also trained by Andre Fabre, Lope de Vega has quickly established himself as one of the world’s leading stallions with 9 individual Group 1 winners and over 100 stakes horses by the age of 12. Now covering many of Europe’s elite broodmares and with another bunch of top class two-year-old performers in 2019, Lope de Vega will continue his ascent to the very top of the stallion ranks.
MAKE BELIEVE has made a very promising start at stud with his first crop runners yielding 15 individual winners, and 3 individual Stakes winners to back them up, and top trainers have made Classic entries for plenty of them. Make Believe himself made significant progress from 2 to 3 and I expect his progeny to make a big impact in 2020. This could be breeders’ opportunity to catch him on the way up.
FASCINATING ROCK will have his first runners next year and he really stamps them with his great movement and wonderful temperament. This joint World Champion has the staunch support of his owner breeder Maurice Regan and you can expect to see plenty of his stock carrying the familiar colours of Newtown Anner Stud from many of the leading yards next year.
NEW BAY who like Lope de Vega won the Prix du Jockey Club and was Champion 3-year-old in France will also have his first runners next year. By Dubawi and from the family of top sires Kingman and Oasis Dream, he has a serious stallions pedigree and must have a great chance of upholding his family’s record of producing top class sires. His first yearlings were very well
received and he will be represented in the stables of many of Europe’s leading trainers.
Meanwhile our French based stallions Dream Ahead and Lawman both had very successful seasons.
DREAM AHEAD with four Group 1 sprinters has confirmed himself as an exceptional source of high-class speed. He can continue to build on that into the future and his explosively fast daughter Glass Slippers is one of the most exciting sprinters to look forward to next year.
LAWMAN who has just completed his first season in France is a proven Classic Sire. Forest Ranger and Chief Ironside both won Group 2 races for him and Group 3 winner Monica Sheriff is unbeaten in her last 5 starts. His 2-year-old colt Eastern Sheriff made a highly impressive debut when winning easily for Hugo Palmer and as a full brother to Harbour Law could well be a Classic colt himself next year.
John and Leslie Malone are superb custodians of two of Ireland’s most beautiful and historic stud farms and following the very substantial investment in the equine facilities at Castlemartin they have now turned their attention to Ballylinch where they have embarked on a major project of upgrading the already impressive estate. Both farms are presented in world class condition and we will be proud to show you around them on your next visit.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone who supported us so well in 2019 and to wish you every success in all your endeavours in 2020.
